Days 93 and 94: Georgia state of mind

September 1, 2010 9 comments

Location: Acworth, GA

Miles Driven: 849

Total Miles: 23,590

After the near-equivalent of two year’s worth of driving, I am back to my starting point in Acworth, Georgia.  It was back at the end of May I hit the road from here to begin the roadtrip.  And although I am back at the beginning, it’s not the end of the trip…this trip will end in New York later this month, but I will enjoy a good break here being back with my local family and friends.

I left Dallas on Monday afternoon with just a general plan of eventually getting to Georgia by Tuesday.  My hope was to do the majority of the driving on Monday, and it worked out well that way as I covered near 500 miles.  I took I-20E practically the whole way, and Monday night I stopped near Vicksburg, MS.  The siege of Vicksburg was a critical battle in the Civil War and I would’ve liked to visit, but I arrived late at night and got on the road early on Tuesday.

I had just about five hours total to go on Tuesday when I woke up, and found myself back home in Acworth in the early afternoon.  I was excited to be greeted by my good dog friends, Marba and Sally.  I missed these guys.

I hung out for a bit at my old home before heading out to go meet some friends for dinner at my favorite restaurant in the Atlanta area, Tofu Village (Korean BBQ).  So great to reunite with some friends I met while working down here.  I never thought in just six months time of working I’d be able to form some pretty close bonds with these guys, but I did.  Lucky to know another great group of people here in Georgia.

So grateful to have so many of my GA friends come out and meet me, especially at a restaurant whose name raises some eyebrows.  Shortly before 9PM we all headed out of there, said our goodbyes, but there will be chances to meet up again as I’ll be in the area through Saturday.

I returned home and spent time hanging out with my foster mom Donna and her daughter, Mary (and the pups, of course).  I had a bag of trailmix waiting for me in my room (Donna’s trailmix is unbeatable, and she sent me off on this trip with several delicious rations).

I don’t have a lot on the agenda for Georgia outside of visiting with friends, but the big thing on Wednesday will be getting my windshield replaced.  Once that is done, everything with the car is back in order 100%.  I was happy to learn that my insurance covers the replacement fully and I don’t have to pay any money out of pocket.

Great to be back here in my old home.
